Frequently asked questions
Answers to common questions about air source heat pump installation, finance and MCS certification for Scottish homeowners. Loans available, subject to status. We install through MCS-certified partners.
How does heat pump finance work in Scotland? +
We arrange a no-obligation survey and quote for a paid air source heat pump installation at your home in Scotland. If you would like to spread the cost, loans available, subject to status. We install through MCS-certified partners, and you receive a written quote before anything goes ahead.
What areas of Scotland do you cover? +
We arrange surveys and quotes for homeowners across Scotland, including Glasgow, Edinburgh, Dundee, Aberdeen, the Highlands, the Borders, Fife, Lothian, Ayrshire, Stirling, Perth and Argyll, as well as island communities where survey access is possible.
Do I have to commit to anything by requesting a quote? +
No. The survey and quote are arranged on a no-obligation basis. You are under no pressure to proceed with the installation after receiving your written quote.
Is the installation certified? +
We install through MCS-certified partners. MCS certification is the recognised standard for heat pump installation quality and is what your installer should hold.
What information do you need to arrange a survey? +
We ask for your name, a UK phone number, email, postcode and a note of what you are interested in. A surveyor then contacts you to arrange a convenient visit to your Scottish home.
How much does an air source heat pump cost in Scotland? +
There is no single figure because every Scottish home is different. The size of heat pump, the property's heat loss, the number of radiators or underfloor runs, hot water cylinder needs and any upgrades to pipework or radiators all influence the installation. After a survey you receive a written quote for your home. Loans available, subject to status.
Can I spread the cost of a heat pump in Scotland? +
Yes. Loans available, subject to status. This means you can arrange to pay over time rather than as a single upfront payment, subject to your circumstances and the lender's checks.
What makes one heat pump installation cost more than another? +
Larger or harder-to-heat homes need a bigger heat pump. Replacing radiators, fitting a hot water cylinder, upgrading pipework, adding weather compensation controls, and the position of the outdoor unit all affect the work involved. A survey identifies what your home actually needs.
Does a survey cost anything? +
We arrange the survey on a no-obligation basis so you can see what is involved and receive a written quote before deciding whether to proceed with a paid installation.
Will I know the full price before committing? +
Yes. You receive a written quote covering the survey, sizing, the heat pump, any recommended system changes and the MCS-certified installation. Nothing goes ahead until you choose to proceed.
What happens during a heat pump survey? +
A surveyor visits your Scottish home, measures room sizes, checks insulation and glazing, assesses your current heating and hot water set-up, and discusses where the outdoor unit and hot water cylinder could go. This information is used to size the heat pump correctly for your property.
How is the heat pump sized for my home? +
Sizing is based on the heat loss of your property, calculated from room dimensions, insulation, window types and the outside design temperature for your part of Scotland. Correct sizing matters because an undersized heat pump will struggle in winter and an oversized one will short-cycle and cost more to run.
Who carries out the installation? +
We install through MCS-certified partners. MCS certification indicates the installer meets the recognised standard for heat pump installation quality and commissioning.
How long does an installation take? +
A typical air source heat pump installation takes a few days on site, but the overall timeline depends on survey availability, system design and any preparatory work such as radiator or cylinder upgrades. Your written quote will set out the expected programme for your home.
Can I spread the cost? +
Yes. Loans available, subject to status.
Which parts of Scotland do you cover? +
We arrange surveys and quotes for homeowners across Scotland. This includes the Central Belt, the Highlands, the Borders, Fife, Lothian, Ayrshire, Argyll and Bute, Tayside, Grampian and island communities where a surveyor can reasonably attend.
Do you cover rural and remote areas? +
Yes. We arrange surveys in rural and remote parts of Scotland, including Highland and island communities. Survey availability can take a little longer in these areas, but we will discuss timing when you enquire.
Are you a national company? +
Heat Pump Finance Scotland is operated by Scottish Energy Efficiency, based in Dundee. We install through MCS-certified partners. We focus on Scottish homeowners.
Can I still get a quote if I live on an island? +
Yes. Where a surveyor can attend your island home, we arrange the survey and quote in the same way as on the mainland. Contact us with your postcode and we will confirm availability.
How do I check if my postcode is covered? +
Enter your postcode on our quote form or call 0141 230 0198. We will confirm whether we can arrange a no-obligation survey for your area of Scotland.
Is the quote really no-obligation? +
Yes. We arrange a survey and provide a written quote. You decide whether to proceed with the paid installation. There is no pressure to commit.
What information do you need from me? +
Your name, a UK phone number, email, postcode and a note of what you are interested in. You can also add a message with any details about your home or heating.
